Comenzó su carrera en el teatro con obras como Las brujas de Salem y Las heridas del viento. En televisión, ha participado en telenovelas como Palabra de mujer, Querida enemiga, Cuando me enamoro y El hotel de los secretos. En 2021, ganó notoriedad al interpretar a Patricio Robles en Luis Miguel: la serie.
En el cine, destacó en producciones como El estudiante (2009) y Las horas contigo (2014). En 2022, protagonizó y coprodujo La nave, película basada en experiencias reales, que le valió una nominación como Mejor Actor en los Premios Canacine.
La elección de Pablo Cruz como protagonista de la serie Sin querer queriendo, que cuenta la vida de Roberto Gómez Bolaños Chespirito, resultó polémica en su momento porque había otros candidatos apoyados por la gente, como Lalo España, quien incluso mandó un casting en video.
Afortunadamente, tras el estreno de la producción de Max, el actor mexicano ha afianzado el gusto de los espectadores con su interpretación del ídolo cómico de hace algunas décadas. Aunque en una reciente charla en Argentina reveló que no era fan de los programas del ídolo que ahora interpreta.
En un programa de Argentina, como parte de la gira promocional de la serie sobre Chespirito, Pablo primero habló sobre su percepción de la fiebre del Chavo del 8 en México: «Creo que ha ido evolucionando esa locura. Al principio, cuando salió, en los 70, el país estaba más dividido». »
Había una clara distinción, y eso con los años ha ido evolucionado, incluso con las personas que antes no lo tenían en buena estima», agregó.
Entonces, reveló que no era fan de los programas del hombre que ahora interpreta: «Irónicamente, no estaba presente Chespirito en mi infancia».
Detalló que a pesar de identificar a sus personajes desde que era niño, «por obvias razones, porque somos mexicanos, estaba en todos lados en la televisión; estaba presente en mi vida, pero no era seguidor de Chespirito».
«Comentaba con amigos a mis 15-16 años que tenía una desventaja social por no tener le humor de Chespirito arraigado a nivel familiar. Eso fue creciendo conforme pasaron los años», señaló el actor mexicano.
Aunque los programas de Roberto le llegaron tarde… pero le llegaron: «Más de un año antes de la audición fue esta coincidencia que empezó a brotar mucho el contenido de Chespirito».
Una conductora le preguntó: «¿No te pasó lo que te perdiste en tu infancia?».
«Ahora veo esos chiste y ese humor y por supuesto que me doy cuenta que traía una desventaja», dijo el actor de la serie Sin querer queriendo.
