#TECNOLOGÍA | Amazon Web Services (AWS), el proveedor de servicios en la nube más grande del mundo, sufrió durante la madrugada de este lunes una caída global que interrumpió el funcionamiento de múltiples plataformas y empresas, incluidas agencias gubernamentales, firmas de inteligencia artificial y servicios financieros.
Entre los sitios afectados se encuentran Snapchat, Amazon, Alexa, Roblox, Duolingo, PlayStation, Fortnite, Signal, Canva y Pokémon Go, según reportes del portal especializado DownDetector.
Las fallas se detectaron primero en Europa, principalmente en España y Reino Unido, donde usuarios comenzaron a exigir una pronta solución.
De acuerdo con el primer informe de AWS, la compañía estaba “investigando tasas de error elevadas y latencias en múltiples servicios”, problema que se prolongó por varias horas.
La causa del fallo
Amazon explicó que el origen del problema se localizó en la región US-EAST-1, su principal clúster de centros de datos en la Costa Este de Estados Unidos.
El fallo afectó al directorio digital que administra las bases de datos DynamoDB, un componente esencial que actúa como “mapa” para ubicar y acceder a la información almacenada.
Al fallar este sistema, los servicios dependientes no pudieron localizar ni recuperar datos, lo que provocó una cadena de errores en toda la infraestructura.
Horas después, AWS confirmó que el servicio había sido totalmente restablecido, y que sus plataformas operaban con normalidad.
Impacto en la economía digital
La caída de AWS tuvo repercusiones a nivel mundial, ya que Amazon controla cerca de un tercio del mercado global de servicios en la nube, siendo la base tecnológica de gran parte del internet.
En la Bolsa de Nueva York, las acciones de Amazon apenas subieron menos de 1% tras el incidente, reflejando la preocupación de los inversionistas ante este tipo de vulnerabilidades.
