#PUEBLA | Personal científico del gobierno federal, de la UANL y de la UNAM descubrieron una especie endémica en la Reserva de la Biósfera Tehuacán-Cuicatlán (RBTC), uno de los tesoros naturales más importantes del sur-sureste del país, ubicada entre los estados de Puebla y Oaxaca.
Se trata de la salamanquesa del Valle de Tehuacán-Cuicatlán (Phyllodactylus ngiwa), un tipo de reptil que fue captado por primera vez merodeando entre las cactáceas de la región en 2020 pensando que se trataba de un gecko o lagartija nocturna.
Sin embargo, los estudios realizados este año por investigadores de la Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León (UANL) y de la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) arrojaron que se trata de una especie única que no se encuentra en ningún otro lado del mundo.
Fernando Reyes Flores, titular de la RBTC, explicó que personal del gobierno federal pensó que se trataba de una salamanquesa del alto Balsas (Phyllodactylus bordai), pero estudios moleculares combinados con datos morfológicos y climáticos señalaron que el gecko en el territorio es diferente, dando lugar a la salamanquesa del Valle de Tehuacán-Cuicatlán (Phyllodactylus ngiwa).
La Comisión Nacional de Áreas Naturales Protegidas (Conanp) indicó que los estudios estuvieron a cargo de los investigadores Tonatiuh Ramírez Reyes, Daniel R. Durán Arceo, Ricardo Palacios Aguilar y Oscar Flores Villela, quienes publicaron los resultados en el artículo:
“Revisión taxonómica del polifilético Phyllodactylus bordai (Squamata: Phyllodactylidae), con la descripción de una nueva especie”, publicado por la revista Zootaxa.
La Conanp afirmó que los estudios para descubrir a la salamanquesa del Valle de Tehuacán-Cuicatlán se hicieron con apego a la ley y sin alterar el ecosistema de la región, además de mantener y establecer contacto permanente con las comunidades cercanas, la mayoría indígenas, para que la investigación se desarrollara sin inconvenientes.
Recordar que la RBTC ya cuenta con varias especies endémicas, tales como biznagas, magueyes, yucas y bromelias, así como flora como el zacatepechuga y zacatonero, y fauna como el lagarto alicante oaxaqueño y el colibrí mixteco.
