#TECNOLOGÍA | Las plataformas de redes sociales con desplazamiento infinito, reproducción automática y feeds algorítmicos deberán mostrar etiquetas de advertencia sobre el potencial daño a la salud mental de los jóvenes usuarios, según anunció el viernes la gobernadora de Nueva York, Kathy Hochul.
«Mantener la seguridad de los neoyorquinos ha sido mi principal prioridad desde que asumí el cargo, y eso incluye proteger a nuestros hijos de los daños potenciales de las redes sociales que fomentan su uso excesivo», dijo Hochul en un comunicado.
Australia prohibió el uso de las redes sociales a menores de 16 años, por lo que Nueva York se une a estados como California y Minnesota que tienen leyes similares sobre las redes sociales.
Según la legislación, la ley neoyorquina incluye las plataformas que ofrecen: «Feeds adictivos», Reproducción automática y Desplazamiento infinito.
La ley se aplica a las conductas que tienen lugar parcial o totalmente en Nueva York, pero no cuando los usuarios acceden a la plataforma desde fuera del estado.
Además, permite al fiscal general del estado emprender acciones legales y solicitar sanciones civiles de hasta 5 mil dólares por infracción de la ley.
Hochul comparó las etiquetas de las redes sociales con las advertencias de otros productos como el tabaco, donde comunican el riesgo de cáncer, o los envases de plástico, donde advierten del riesgo de asfixia para los niños pequeños.
Los portavoces de TikTok, Snap, Meta, y Alphabet no respondieron inmediatamente a las solicitudes de comentarios.
