De acuerdo con las primeras indagatorias, fiscales federales y agentes del FBI comenzaron a recabar testimonios y documentación relacionada con contratos comerciales, transferencias bancarias y movimientos financieros efectuados en territorio estadounidense. La investigación se desarrolla mientras Argentina disputa la Copa del Mundo 2026.
Las pesquisas también ponen bajo la lupa las operaciones realizadas mediante la empresa TourProdEnter LLC, utilizada para administrar el cobro de contratos internacionales de patrocinio y derechos comerciales de la AFA. Los investigadores analizan transferencias que superarían los 300 millones de dólares para determinar si existieron posibles delitos como fraude bancario o lavado de dinero.
Entre las personas que ya han rendido declaración se encuentra el empresario Guillermo Tofoni, mientras que las autoridades continúan reuniendo evidencia para establecer el origen y destino de los recursos financieros involucrados. Hasta el momento no se han presentado cargos formales contra Claudio Tapia ni contra la AFA.
La investigación permanece en una etapa preliminar y las autoridades estadounidenses no han informado cuándo podrían determinar si existen elementos suficientes para iniciar un proceso penal.
