#ESPECTÁCULOS | Abraham Quintanilla, el hombre que descubrió el talento de una de las voces más queridas en la historia de la música latina, murió a los 86 años. Su hijo, el también músico A.B. Quintanilla, confirmó la noticia la mañana de este 13 de diciembre.
“Con el corazón lleno de tristeza les hago saber que mi padre falleció hoy”, escribió en una emotiva publicación de Instagram, acompañada de una fotografía sin más detalles.
La partida del padre de Selena conmociona a millones de fans, no solo por la figura que representó dentro del entorno familiar, sino también por su papel fundamental en la carrera de la Reina del Tex-Mex.
El arquitecto de una leyenda
Abraham Isaac Quintanilla Jr. nació el 22 de febrero de 1939 en Corpus Christi, Texas, en el seno de una familia de trabajadores agrícolas. Se casó en 1963 con Marcella Ofelia Samora, con quien tuvo tres hijos: Abraham “A.B.” Quintanilla III, Suzette y Selena.
Desde joven mostró pasión por la música y en 1956 se integró a Los Dinos, un grupo vocal local. Años después, sería el mismo nombre con el que bautizaría la agrupación que formó con sus hijos, al descubrir el talento vocal de su hija menor.
Con “Selena y Los Dinos”, Abraham no solo forjó una banda, sino un fenómeno cultural. Fue productor, manager, mentor y protector. Su visión llevó a Selena del anonimato al estrellato, posicionándola como ícono de la música latina en la década de los 90.
Tras el asesinato de su hija en 1995 a manos de Yolanda Saldívar, su entonces manager, Abraham Quintanilla se dedicó a preservar y amplificar el legado de Selena. Fundó Q-Productions, desde donde administró el catálogo musical de su hija y promovió nuevos talentos.
También fue productor ejecutivo de la película biográfica Selena (1997), protagonizada por Jennifer Lopez, donde el actor Edward James Olmos lo interpretó en uno de los papeles más entrañables del cine latino.
Aunque su vida estuvo marcada por el dolor de perder a su hija a los 23 años, Abraham Quintanilla se convirtió en símbolo de lucha, resistencia y amor familiar.
